RedRover’s Mission

Domestic violence. Natural disasters. Emergency veterinary expenses. These are all reasons people are forced to make tough decisions about their family pets. RedRover never wants you to have to compromise the love of your family pet for safety or financial reasons, which is why they’ve developed multiple programs to help people in need care for their pets in times of crisis.

RedRover’s mission is to help bring animals out of crisis through emergency sheltering, disaster-relief services, financial assistance, and education, and to strengthen the bond between people and their pets. There are multiple ways you can support RedRover and these causes—by becoming a volunteer, donating, through various collaborations, and by simple acts like sharing their information and posts through your social media platforms.

RedRover Readers

The RedRover Readers Program was created to give kids an early understanding of empathy toward pets through classroom learning.

Educators and volunteers can take the RedRover Readers online workshop that qualifies them to receive the full animal-themed, story-based classroom curriculum for classroom children ages 5-11 years old. This program helps teach children about the human-animal bond through reading storybooks aloud, then discussion time with activities that reinforce the concepts they’ve learned.

RedRover Relief Urgent Care & RedRover Responders

The RedRover Relief Urgent Care grant program provides financial assistance, resources, and emotional support for pet guardians facing economic hardship when pets are in life-threatening situations.

Each grant, around $250, is intended to fill a small gap in funding that could prevent an animal from receiving life-saving veterinary care.

Specially trained volunteer RedRover Responders provide a range of hands-on care and support for animals in crisis, including temporary shelter and care for animals displaced by natural disasters and rescued from cruelty conditions, such as puppy mills or hoarding cases; assistance in communities with an overpopulation of homeless animals; support for pets of domestic violence (DV) survivors by building pet-friendly spaces  at DV and animal shelters.

RedRover Domestic Violence Assistance Programs

Did you know it takes a survivor an average of seven times to leave an abuser before they leave for good? One common reason is because the survivor doesn’t have a place to bring their pet, and many domestic violence shelters don’t accept pets. Click here to find DV shelters that accept pets.

RedRover Escape grants help domestic violence survivors and their pets safely escape abuse. Grants help with the cost of temporary pet boarding while the survivor is in a domestic violence shelter, with other costs considered.

RedRover Safe Housing grants help domestic violence shelters create custom pet programs that best suit their communities’ needs.  This helps remove a barrier to safety by allowing people and their pets to escape abuse together.

25 by 2025 Campaign

Every year, more than 10 million people in the United States are physically abused by an intimate partner, and this abuse affects pets, too. Currently less than 20% of domestic violence shelters accept pets, creating another barrier to safety. RedRover has partnered with Greater Good Charities, PetSmart Charities, and Purina, to help ensure 25% of domestic violence shelters become pet-friendly by the end of 2025. Whether you work in a DV shelter, are an advocate, a veterinary professional, a survivor or advocate, you can join the movement by taking the pledge to join 25 by 2025 here.

Help RedRover by donating, volunteering, or sharing their mission and programs through social media. No donation amount or act is too small to make a difference for animals in crisis.
