Your dog can be a hero by donating blood! Join KONG & Veterinary Emergency Group for a canine blood drive.

You might not typically consider the need for canine blood donations as you do for human blood. However, as pets are increasingly being seen as immediate family members and their health has become prioritized, more advancements are being made in veterinary medicine and dogs are living longer. From illnesses to accidents, the growing need for canine blood products has continued to rise. In response to this demand, the Veterinary Emergency Group has launched the VEG Blood Bank, opening eight blood banks of their own so far with more locations coming soon.

What is a Canine Blood Bank? Just like human blood banks, VEG blood banks store canine blood. The donation process is safe and ethical, and each donation can save multiple lives. But red blood cells expire every 35 days, which is why there’s a critical need for repeat volunteer donors.

Community Impact The VEG Blood Bank ensures blood availability wherever VEG operates.  Together for the month of June, KONG and VEG are calling on pet parents to volunteer their dogs as blood donors, helping to save dogs’ lives and create meaningful community connections.

With a growing veterinary community and limited blood supply, the VEG Blood Bank is able to position VEG as a reliable partner to referring veterinarians for their customer’s pets in case of an emergency visit at VEG. VEG’s initiative will also help supply their own hospitals, helping patients to avoid commercial vendor waitlists while freeing up resources for others.

The KONG x VEG Mission Our shared mission is to help dogs live longer, healthier lives with their humans and create community connections. This is why KONG is partnering with VEG for the month of June to help increase donors at their blood bank locations. Every donor who participates will receive a KONG goody bag through VEG! Your dog’s donation can make a significant impact in the lives of other pets. Click on a location near you to schedule a free screening for your dog, including a free and thorough check up!
